The life and health of the civilian population of a number of settlements has been seriously endangered: Human Rights Defender

The RA Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan wrote on his Facebook page:

“Criminal acts and incursions of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces since November 14 and terrorist attacks since November 16, have seriously endangered the lives and health of the civilian population of a number of settlements in the Sisian community of the RA Syunik region.

According to the RA Human Rights Defender’s Office, in the villages of Ishkhanasar, Noravan and Aghitu in the Sisian community, as well as for some residents of the town of Sisian, the sounds of Azerbaijani shelling were heard.

In Noravan, shots from different caliber firearms can be heard. The sounds of gunfire could be heard here today from about 1 pm, as of 6:55 pm.

As a result of Azerbaijani criminal incursions into the Syunik region since May 2021, the residents of these settlements were deprived of the opportunity to use their lands, as the Azerbaijani armed forces are physically located in those lands without any legal basis.

For example, in the case of Noravan, people lost 200-400 hectares of pastures and grasslands. In the case of Aghitu, people lost about 800 hectares of land, of which about 200 hectares were grasslands and about 600 hectares were pastures.

Armenian servicemen directly protect the life and health of the civilian population, and the actions of the Azerbaijani armed forces should be assessed in the context of the genocidal policy of the Azerbaijani authorities.”
