The draft law recommending reducing the terms of consideration of applications for RA citizenship was adopted by the National Assembly in the first reading

Today, on 27 October, the RA National Assembly adopted in the first reading the draft law on making amendments to the law “On Citizenship of the Republic of Armenia” submitted by the government, which proposes to reduce the term of consideration of applications for RA citizenship, setting 90 working days instead of 6 months.

The draft received 58 “for” and 24 “abstained” votes at the NA sitting.

In addition, it is proposed to extend the legal deadline for Armenians applying for permanent residence in the Republic of Armenia and citizens of other former Soviet republics to apply for citizenship of the Republic of Armenia until 31 December, 2023.

It is also envisaged to reserve the right of persons with adult children who are RA citizens to acquire RA citizenship without the requirement of 3 years of permanent residence in the RA and the knowledge of Armenian.
