The SJC rejected the motion to subject judge Sergey Marabyan to disciplinary responsibility

The SJC has completed the examination of the motion submitted by the Ministry of Justice on the issue of subjecting the judge of the Criminal Court of Appeal Sergey Marabyan to disciplinary responsibility.

Iravaban.net reports that the Council decided to reject the ministry’s motion. SJC Chairman Gagik Jhangiryan announced that the decision was made unanimously.

It should be reminded that the disciplinary proceedings against Judge Sergey Marabyan were initiated on the basis of the report of the RA Prosecutor General for changing the pretrial detention measure of Zhirik Sirekanyan, one of the defendants in the case of beating former NA President Ararat Mirzoyan. In particular, as we have already informed, the court of first instance, examining the motion of the investigator to choose detention as a measure of restraint for Sirekanyan, decided to satisfy the motion.  The defense disputed the measure. The Criminal Court of Appeal, presided over by Judge Sergey Marabyan, upheld the lawyer’s appeal, overturning the decision of the Court of First Instance to detain Sirekanyan, against which the Prosecutor’s Office had already filed an appeal, as a result of which it was overturned.
