Armen Charchyan’s lawyer Erik Aleksanyan stated that Gagik Jhangiryan, the Acting Chairman of the DJC, visited the Criminal Court of Appeal during the discussion of the issue of Charchyan’s pretrial detention.

The lawyer’s statement attempted to give the impression that Mr. Jhangiryan had interfered in the decision-making process in this case.

We would like to inform that Mr. Gagik Jhangiryan visited the Criminal Court of Appeal together with the SJC judges and scientist members in connection with the discussion of the issue of the candidate of the Chairman of the Court.

On that day, Jhangiryan met with all the judges of the Criminal Court of Appeal in one hall, because there was no separate meeting or discussion of separate proceedings, therefore the visit could not be connected with the case of Armen Charchyan or any other person.

We urge to refrain from spreading assumptions and misleading information.”
