The Government of the Republic of Armenia has to pay 9000 Euros to the chairman of the Board of YVU Sasun Mikaelyan as compensation for moral damage, as well as 3800 Euros for costs and expenses.
Today, on 31 August, The European Court of Human Rights has, released the judgement on the case of Mikaelian v. Armeni related to the criminal case against him after the events of 2008.
The Court found that there had been a violation of Article 11 of the Convention (Freedom of assembly and association).
It should be reminded that Sasun Mikaelyan, the chairman of the Yerkrapah Voluntary Union, former NA deputy, was sentenced to 8 years in prison after the post-election events of 2008 and spent more than 3 years in prison. He was released on amnesty in May 2011.
