The Supreme Judicial Council has issued a statement, which reads:
“The Supreme Judicial Council strongly emphasizes the constitutional mission of the judiciary in the system of state power to act in an apolitical, neutral, professional sphere.
Cooperation between the legislative, executive and judicial bodies based on the constitutional principle of separation and balance of powers can only be effective if there is mutual respect and understanding between those bodies and officials.
According to the conclusion of the Advisory Council of European Judges No. 18 (2015), unbalanced critical commentary by politicians is irresponsible and causes a serious problem because public trust and confidence in the judiciary can thereby be unwittingly or deliberately undermined.
Taking into account that the RA National Assembly of the eighth convocation has just been formed, we urge all the NA factions and deputies to be as restrained and correct as possible in their positions on the judiciary և in their opinions on the courts.”
