The President of the Artsakh Republic Arayik Harutyunyan wrote on his Facebook page:
“Dear compatriots,
The Artsakh Republic was self-sufficient in terms of electricity until the Turkish-Azerbaijani aggression by 2020 and even exported a certain amount of electricity.
After the war, most of our energy resources remained in the occupied territories of Artsakh, and Artsakh became an importer from the exporting country.
Under the current conditions, the recovery of Artsakh’s economy and our vital activity largely depend on energy opportunities. Therefore, in order to restore energy self-sufficiency and promote economic development, we have decided to build a new large HPP in the territory of Getavan community of Martakert region.
The start of the 17.6 MW Getavan-1 HPP project, worth about $ 25 million, will be funded by the Artsakh Investment Fund, and other investors will have the opportunity to join it in the near future.”
