Isabella Abgaryan, a member of Yerevan Council of Elders asked at today’s, 25 May sitting to speak before moving on to the agenda, talking about the border situation.

“Today we have another, more concern than the problems of our city. This is the situation near the borders of Armenia, the provocation that Azerbaijan has carried out against the Republic of Armenia. and Yerevan, as the capital, cannot but express its unity, its support to our compatriots living in Syunik, Vardenis and other areas, who today are intimidated, deprived of their right to live a normal life, whose children’s rights are violated and those children are forced to see an armed foreign soldier.

I understand that the international community has not been able to resolve this situation peacefully for the second week in a row, which, of course, is a great pain. All this is a consequence of the silence or toothless statements we heard when for 44 days Azerbaijan violated all human rights declarations, all conventions related to the war, was unpunished and remained unpunished, was not subjected to any serious sanctions. We have a difficult, explosive situation, and due to the actions of our opponent, a new, even larger, and larger number of participants may start a war in our region. Today, with this step, Azerbaijan threatens not only Armenia, but also the peace and stability of the whole region,” Abgaryan said in her speech.

She, as a member of the Yerevan Council of Elders, as a resident of the capital, once and again mentioned to the residents of the border region that we are with them. “Do not doubt, Yerevan cannot live a normal life, if your life is in danger. We are with you mentally today, if necessary, we will be by your side physically,” Isabella Abgaryan said.

The speech was welcomed by the Mayor of Yerevan Hayk Marutyan, noting that he agrees with her words.
