After the provocations carried out by the Azerbaijani armed forces, the Armenian-Azerbaijani border tension did not change significantly compared to the previous day. The Ministry of Defense reported.
“After the talks held on 16 May, several groups of representatives of the Azerbaijani armed forces that entered the territory of the Republic of Armenia returned to their starting positions. Nevertheless, a part of the military is still in the territory of the Republic of Armenia.
Today, the RA Minister of Defense had discussions on the peaceful settlement of the issue with the RF Minister of Defense, the CSTO Secretary General, and the director of the RF FSB. The military attachés accredited in the RA were hosted at the Ministry of Defense.
“The Ministry of Defense reiterates that any encroachment on the sovereign territories of the Republic of Armenia is absolutely unacceptable. In order to avoid developments with unpredictable consequences, the Azerbaijani military must leave our territory without any preconditions,” the statement reads.
It should be reminded that on 12 May, some groups of servicemen of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces crossed the state border of Armenia and took actions to enclose Sev Lich (Black Lake). The Armenian Armed Forces carried out tactical countermeasures.
The Azeris stationed in some adjacent areas withdrew from the occupied territories as a result of tactical countermeasures by the Armenian armed forces. No case of the use of firearms or other weapons has been reported by the Armenian or Azerbaijani armed forces so far. At the same time, about 250 members of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces continue to be inside the state borders of the Republic of Armenia in some parts of Syunik and Gegharkunik regions.
