On 17 May, the acting Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia Vagharshak Harutyunyan had a telephone conversation with the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, General of the Army Sergey Shoigu.

Vagharshak Harutyunyan presented to his Russian counterpart the situation created as a result of the provocation carried out by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces on 12-13 May. The Armenian Defense Minister said that despite the agreement reached during the talks, several groups of Azerbaijani servicemen have returned to their starting positions, some of them still remain in the territory of the Republic of Armenia, which means that the problem has not been solved yet. Vagharshak Harutyunyan considered the encroachments on the sovereign territories of the Republic of Armenia inadmissible, emphasizing that the further developments of the situation may lead to unpredictable consequences.

The Russian Defense Minister assured that the issue is in the center of attention of the military-political leadership of the Russian Federation, that official Moscow will make all the necessary efforts to resolve the situation peacefully.
