NA deputy Gevorg Petrosyan proposes to include the Draft Law “On Making an Addendum to the RA Criminal Code” authored by him on the agenda of the NA sittings.
The draft stipulates that in case of public disclosure of false or untrue information of public interest or issues related to national security an official, a fine of 700 thousand to 1 million drams or up to one year of imprisonment is proposed.
The government gave a negative conclusion to the draft, noting that the concept of “issues of public interest” is vague; it can cover a wide range of issues. The same goes for the wording “national security issues”. This is not defined in the legislation of other countries with a vague scope.
In any case, Gevorg Petrosyan insisted that it should be accepted. MP Sisak Gabrielyan announced from the tribune that the NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs had given a negative conclusion to the draft. Petrosyan started arguing with Gabrielyan.
