Police warn protesters of 3-10 years in prison for threatening to use violence against President, National Assembly, Government or Constitutional Court

Police issued a statement saying:

“On 22 December of this year, during a rally organized by 17 political parties in the Republic Square, a statement was made, in which the implementation of the mentioned actions may contain features of a crime under Article 301.1 of the RA Criminal Code.

In particular, it was mentioned . “So far we have no response from the “My Step” faction. So it makes us more determined, it makes us stronger. So from now on we have to work with each member of the “My Step” faction. Soon we will publish the names of all the deputies of the “My Step” faction in turn and  the citizens of the Republic of Armenia are free in their actions and in decisions, so that if they do not understand the public demand, then, yes, we have to convene a parliamentary session. If they do not understand that the fate of our country depends on their voting and their behavior, then we must make them understand together.”

Part 1 of Article 301.1 of the RA Criminal Code envisages imprisonment for a term of three to ten years for coercion or threat of violence against the President, the National Assembly, the Government or the Constitutional Court forcing them to perform or fail to perform any action within their powers, and which is not aimed at usurping power.

Part 2 of the same article provides for a sentence of ten to fifteen years’ imprisonment if the above-mentioned actions have caused serious consequences.

The RA Police urges to refrain from making statements with such content or from taking actions mentioned in such statements; warns that any illegal action will receive an adequate response from the RA Police.”
