The RA Prosecutor’s Office and the CSO Anti-Corruption Coalition of Armenia through a memorandum signed on 9 December, 2017, have been cooperating in the areas of prevention of corruption and reduction of corruption risks, increase of efficiency in the fight against corruption, exchange of information, increase of public participation through working discussions and other joint initiatives, promotion of anti-corruption reforms, protection of interests and rights of individuals and legal entities, as well as anti-corruption education.
Taking into account the key role and significance of the RA Prosecutor’s Office in the fight against corruption, within the framework of the above-mentioned cooperation, the Prosecutor’s Office received an invitation to participate in the “Youth4Anti-Corruption” project supported by the Government of Sweden, and which is implemented by the Armenian Lawyers’ Association, which is a member of the CSO Anti-Corruption Coalition of Armenia. The project aims to promote the participation and role of youth in the fight against corruption, to strengthen the knowledge and skills of Armenian students in the field of anti-corruption, to raise the level of anti-corruption perception and awareness of the youth. More than 120 students and young specialists from all regions of Armenia receive anti-corruption education at the “Anti-Corruption School for Young Leaders” established within the framework of the project.
Within the framework of this project, during November, the listeners of the Anti-Corruption Club had separate meetings with Mr. Vahe Dolmazyan, Deputy Prosecutor of Lori Region, Mr. Garik Abelyan the Senior Prosecutor of Syunik Region, and Mr. Artur Mnoyan, the Senior Prosecutor of Shirak Region.
The prosecutors presented the role and functions of the Prosecutor’s Office in the fight against corruption, the peculiarities, the priorities, the results recorded in the regions, the legal mechanisms for the fight against corruption.
The prosecutors also referred to the activities of the Whistleblowing System, the unified electronic platform for whistle-blowing, launched in the Republic of Armenia, as well as the functions of the Anti-Corruption Committee to be formed. They highlighted the active participation of everyone, especially the youth, in the fight against corruption in terms of raising public awareness and the effectiveness of cooperation with law enforcement agencies.
The students of the advanced stage of the Anti-Corruption School for Young Leaders also met on the online platform with Ms Ani Sargsyan, Senior Prosecutor of the Department for Confiscation of Property of Illicit Origin of the RA General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Armenia. Ani Sargsyan presented the peculiarities of the process of confiscation of property of illicit origin, its significance from the point of view of the effectiveness of the fight against corruption, social justice, and restoration of violated state rights. The prosecutor also introduced to the audience the functions of the Department for Confiscation of Property of Illicit Origin of the RA General Prosecutor’s Office, the peculiarities of formation.
Mutually interested and meaningful discussions took place within the framework of the above-mentioned meetings.
The RA Prosecutor’s Office is persistent in deepening cooperation with civil society representatives, and such events will be ongoing in the context of this cooperation.
