The official website of the Ministry of Environment informs:.
“The Ministry of Environment has written to the executive secretaries of environmental conventions, international organizations and partners, drawing their attention to the danger of a humanitarian-environmental catastrophe as a result of the Turkish-Azerbaijani aggression unleashed along the line of contact against Artsakh.
The situation with the corpses on the battlefield is already getting out of control: Video recorders recorded how wild animals ate corpses. Such a humanitarian catastrophe can lead to terrible human-environmental problems, including the spread of various dangerous infectious diseases through animals. These consequences will not be limited to the territories of Artsakh, Armenia and Azerbaijan, but will pose a threat to the entire region.
The impact on the biodiversity of the region, which is recognized as one of the world’s hotspots for world biodiversity, a number of plant and animal species are included in the Red Book of Armenia, as well as 4 species are included in the Red List of Threatened Species of the the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The area is also home to rare and endangered species such as the Caucasian leopard, grizzly bear, bezoar goat, black and griffon vulture, and so on.
“We call on the international community to act decisively to condemn, end the use of force against Artsakh, civilians, and vital infrastructure, and mitigate the humanitarian and environmental disasters in this region.”
