19 civilians killed, 80 injured, about 2700 property and infrastructure damaged in Artsakh

As a result of the Azerbaijani war crimes, 19 people were killed, 80 were injured and about 2,700 property and infrastructure were damaged in Artsakh. Artsakh Information Headquarters reported.

Within the framework of the fact-finding mission launched in the staff of the Human Rights Defender of the Artsakh Republic, a thorough study and analysis of the cases of criminal encroachments on the civilian population of Artsakh by the Azerbaijani armed forces during the period of from 27.09.2020 through 04.10.2020, was carried out, the results of which are presented below. Thus:

As of 4 October, 19 civilians were killed, including 1 girl, 7 women and 11 men. A child, five women, four men were killed in the yard of their house, and the others in public places of different settlements (central square, district). Deaths were registered in Stepanakert (7 persons), Martuni (6 persons), Hadrut (1 person) and Martakert (3 persons), in Alashan settlement of Martakert region (1 person) a place near Mets Shen community (1 person).

A total of about 80 people were injured, of which 60 received serious injuries. 48 of them are male and 12 are female.

Twenty-four of the men were injured when a projectile exploded in or near their home (and in the case of eight people, the projectile exploded in the backyard of an apartment building); 7 as a result of the attack, 7 as a result of the shelling of the State Emergency Service building carrying out humanitarian functions, and 23 as a result of targeting other public places.

The received bodily injuries are mainly located on the lower, upper limbs and face of the victims, in the form of shrapnel wounds.

22 people were seriously injured in Stepanakert city or adjacent areas, 6 people in Hadrut regional center of Hadrut, 3 people in Taghaser community, 1 person in Vardashat community of the same region, 12 people in Martuni regional center of Martuni, 1 person in Spitakashen community. Martakert regional center in Martakert – 2 people, in the area adjacent to Maghavuz community – 5 people, in N. Horatagh community – 2 people, in Alashan settlement – 3 people, in Mataghis community of the same region – 1 person, in Karvachar community of Shahumyan region – 2 people.

Since 27 September, the Azerbaijani armed forces have targeted more than 60 civilian settlements in the Artsakh Republic, destroying or damaging numerous infrastructures and private property. In particular, according to preliminary data, more than 2100 private properties (residential houses, shops, etc.), more than 240 cars, about 350 infrastructural and industrial facilities were seriously damaged.

Please be informed that yesterday and today Azerbaijan hit the civil infrastructure and residential buildings of the capital of the Artsakh Republic Stepanakert with heavy missiles. Four people were killed and 10 others were injured in yesterday’s attacks, and information on today’s attacks is being verified.

Please note that the mentioned data are not final, the staff of the Human Rights Defender of Artsakh continues the fact-finding mission, the results of which will be updated.

The Human Rights Defender emphasizes that the mentioned casualties and injuries were registered as a result of the use of prohibited weapons and methods, and in recent days Azerbaijan has started to use heavy and wide-range missiles and aircraft, some of which are of cassette type, against the civilian population. Moreover, in these two days, in Stepanakert and a number of other settlements, the Azerbaijani armed forces have deliberately and intentionally targeted vital infrastructure, which is a serious war crime, deepening the humanitarian crisis in Artsakh.
