Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Anna Naghdalyan writes on her Facebook page:
“On 1 October, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces used artillery in the direction of the village of Shatvan in the Gegharkunik region of the Republic of Armenia, as well as fired a missile from the strike UAV at the settlement of Mets Masrik, as a result of which Gevorg in Vardanyan, born in 1959 was killed, and two civilians were injured.
Later, the enemy’s UAV entered the airspace of the Republic of Armenia and carried out reconnaissance flights near the capital of the Republic of Armenia, Yerevan. All UAVs were destroyed by air defense.
It is noteworthy that Azerbaijan is going to further escalate hostilities hours after the announcement of the leaders of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair countries.
The Republic of Armenia strongly condemns these actions of Azerbaijan, assessing them as a step to further aggravate the conflict. At the instigation of Turkey, we view this attempt to directly undermine regional security as a response to the international community, in particular the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs’ efforts to establish peace.
“The entire responsibility for further escalation of the conflict lies with the military-political leadership of Azerbaijan and Turkey.”
