The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry is threatening Armenia with an international nuclear crime by shelling the “Metsamor nuclear power plant. The statement was made by the head of the press service of the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry Vagif Dargyakhli.
“The Armenian side should not forget that the most modern missile systems in the arsenal of the Azerbaijani army can hit the Metsamor NPP with great accuracy, which will lead to a major disaster for Armenia,” Dargyakhli said at the press conference held on the 16 July, responding to the question voiced by an Azerbaijani journalist “Armenpress” reports.
In the days of border tensions that began on July 12, Armenia has never announced the targeting of civilian infrastructure, including the Mingechaur Reservoir, and what is more has not targeted civilian targets.
This is not the first time that Azerbaijan has made such a terrorist statement. In 2018, the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan made such a threat, noting that the Azerbaijani arsenal has the most modern means of destructive weapons, which can destroy all possible Armenian military facilities and strategic lines of communication in a short time. “There are objects in the territory of Armenia, after the destruction of which there will be no life for hundreds of years,” the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry stated.
The 1987 Geneva Conference on Terrorism adopted a declaration entitled “The Geneva Declaration on Terrorism”, which states that an act of state terrorism, in particular, is an attack by the armed forces on targets that pose a threat to the civilian population of another state.
