The Prime Minister’s wife Anna Hakobyan has issued a statement calling for an end to hostilities and moving towards peace, which reads:
“The situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border has become tense since yesterday, and fighting has started between the Armenian and Azerbaijani armed forces.
According to official information, the Azerbaijani side suffered 4 casualties in a few hours.
As the author of the Women for Peace Campaign, I urge Azerbaijani women and mothers to call on their country’s military-political leadership to cease hostilities and not endanger the lives of the children of the Azerbaijani and Armenian peoples.
Women, mothers and sisters should ask their military-political leadership what they have achieved at the expense of the loss of their loved ones, their personal tragedy, and what prevents them from discussing the issues in peace, through negotiations with the leadership of the other side.
Especially in these days of the war against the epidemic, when the world is on its knees, the leaders of the states must direct their efforts to protect the health of their peoples and to return to the normal life of one common enemy the pandemic.
Following the UN Secretary-General’s call for a global ceasefire is the best that country leaders can do for their countries and peoples.
War must always be avoided. There is always an alternative.”
