No Special Legislative Amendments have been made to appoint Sergey Meghryan as Chief Compulsory Enforcement Officer

The Information Checking Center reports that in print media and then on media sites, an article “Law for a Friend? The Mystery of the appointment of the Chief Compulsory Enforcement Officer”, wher it is specifically stated that “the newly appointed Chief Compulsory Enforcement Officer Sergey Meghryan is a friend of RA Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan,” and was only able to be appointed to the post due to a amendments in the law.”

The Ministry of Justice informed the Information Review Center that Minister Badasyan, until recently, was associated with Sergei Megryan only during his student years.

As for the legislative changes, the Ministry informed that the 65 draft laws on making amendments and additions to a number of laws were submitted by the Civil Service Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia on January 21 to the National Assembly which, were fully adopted by the National Assembly in the second reading and which inter alia stemmed from the Government’s adopted and implemented policies in the area of public service reform.

As a result of these reforms, in addition to the Compulsory Enforcement Service, appropriate changes were made in the Penitentiary and Rescue Services as well. In more than a dozen other laws, the requirements for positions have been revised.

Thus, the allegations that Sergey Meghryan is a friend of RA Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan and that a law has been amended to appoint him to that position are not true.
