President of the Constitutional Court Hrayr Tovmasyan issued a statement saying:
“Dear compatriots, colleagues,
I have to respond to fake and untrue lies attributed to me by the RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at today’s press conference.
I consider it necessary to state that After Pashinyan became prime minister, I spoke to him only twice by phone.
He once asked me to conduct an investigation under the international treaty on the subject of the Constitutional Court as soon as possible, as it is necessary for the fulfillment of Armenia’s international obligations.
The second time the phone call was on my own initiative to arrange a meeting with him within the framework of the visit of the President of the Constitutional Court of Germany Mr. Andreas Voßkuhle.
I have never had a face-to-face meeting with Nikol Pashinyan, which was out of view of the cameras.. During his tenure, with the exception of the meeting with Voßkuhle, I have never been to the government or government summer house, and Pashinyan has never been to the Constitutional Court, my office, or any other place.
I have never made any suggestion to either Pashinyan or any government official related to my tenure..
I demand that Pashinyan publicly refer to at least one credible fact, one objective factual reality, that I have offered “my services” at least once directly or indirectly, face to face or through any other official since May 2018, or ” I have suggested that they do something ”that would help Pashinyan or his political force somehow support me or the RA Constitutional Court.
I say and claim this as a citizen of the Republic of Armenia and an Armenian man for whom honor and dignity are above everything else, and falsehood is unacceptable and condemnable, especially when it comes from a high-ranking official.
From this moment on, I will wait patiently for 20 days for Pashinyan to publish any objective fact substantiating his words, any credible evidence.
If not, I will ask my lawyers to file a lawsuit against Nikol Pashinyan for defamation,” end of quote.
Notably, on 25 January, during a press conference, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that Hrayr Tovmasyan had been offering his services to him on a daily, weekly and monthly basis since May 2018.
