President of Abkhazia Khadzhimba has decided to resign. Former Prime Minister Sergei Shamba stated this to the assembled in the Presidential Palace: TASS reports.
Beslan Bartsits, Vice President of Abkhazia confirmed the information.
“Yes, I left,” Khadzhimba told Interfax. Asked if he will run in the snap presidential election, he said: “Life will show.”
It should be reminded that on 9 January, several hundred demonstrators in Sukhumi attacked the Presidential Administration building. They demanded a review of the results of the presidential election in which Khadzhimba outnumbered one of the opposition leaders, Alhas Quicinia, by 1%.
Soon the Supreme Court annulled the election results. The Abkhazian CEC has set a new presidential election on 22 March.
