Deputy Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia Armen Harutyunyan received a group of experts of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The prosecutor’s office informs about this.
During the meeting they discussed the implementation of the e-justice system, digitization of the criminal justice system, the models to be implemented, the potential problems arising from the introduction of a unified system, as well as the possibility for the criminal trial participants to use the e-justice tools.
Welcoming the guests, the RA Deputy Prosecutor General noted that the RA Prosecutor General’s Office is actively involved in the reform processes aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the criminal justice system and attaches importance to the cooperation established with international partner organizations in different formats.
The interlocutory committee approaches, the vision of e-justice, legislative and institutional initiatives already implemented in this direction were presented.
Armen Harutyunyan noted that the introduction of an electronic system for conducting criminal proceedings is envisaged to be implemented in parallel with the process of adoption of the new Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia. Currently, the experience of different countries is being studied for this purpose; measures are being taken to develop a more comprehensive technical task as well.
The members of the panel considered important active initiative participation of the prosecutor’s office in this process.
In terms of ensuring the effectiveness of the e-justice system, they emphasized the provision of solutions that would ensure harmony and interconnection between the pre-trial and judicial electronic platforms, as well as facilitate the enhancement and supervision of the legality of criminal proceedings.
Other issues related to the methodological and expert support of the process were also raised during the meeting.
