Clarification of the Corruption Prevention Committee on the proceeding against Hayk Marutyan

Clarification on the proceedings initiated by the Corruption Prevention Committee:

“Taking into account the inaccurate information provided by some media outlets on the Corruption Prevention Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Committee) decision of 09 December, 2019, 06/2019 (initiation of initiating proceedings on the basis of an apparent breach of the requirements of incompatibility by Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan), we consider it appropriate to report the following: Pursuant to Article 27 (1) paragraph 2 of the RA Law on the Prevention of Corruption, the Committee has initiated on its own discretion, proceedings for allegedly violating the requirements of incompatibility on 9 December 2019.

The initiation of the proceedings was reported by some media as a violation, which is not true. We would like to inform you that in the course of the proceedings instituted, the Committee is examining the facts of a possible violation.

After examining all the materials, documents and information (including information received from the parties) relating to the matter under discussion, the Committee shall, within the time limit set by law, adopt and publish the Committee’s opinion on the existence or absence of a violation. Interested in providing more objective and accurate information to the public, we ask the media to turn to the Committee for comments and information or if they have questions when presenting the Committee’s decisions.
