President of the Republican Party of Armenia, the 3rd President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan delivered a speech at the Congress of the European People’s Party (EPP) in Zagreb, Croatia.
“In the spring of 2018, Armenia appeared in the headlines of the international media. The change of power in my country took place exclusively in a peaceful way. One of my goals was to prevent human casualties and keep the state free from dangerous shocks.
Those who came to power under the name of revolution have not made any revolutionary changes or revolutionary breakthroughs in the country’s external and internal agendas in the past one and a half years. Moreover, dangerous developments threatening democracy are taking place in the country. The constitutional grounds are broken, the principle of separation and balance of powers is not in place, the independence of the judiciary is clearly violated by numerous facts, political persecutions are carried out, aggressive actions against the opposition media and activists have become frequent, Intolerance and hate speech have reached worrying levels,”- Serzh Sargsyan, stated underlining that he had left so that his people would be able to try to build a better state, “but today the voices of those who accuse him of yielding power to the populists are becoming more and more pronounced”. The speech is available in the video.
