Human Rights Activists Ruben Melikyan reflected on the prohibition of visiting the Ex-Deputy Chief of Staff of the National Assembly Arsen Babayan:
“To all those who are genuinely or for the sake of their interest in the restrictions of communication imposed on political prisoner Arsen Babayan with his family (including children 1 and 6 years old), which have been removed ‘heroically’ and ‘in humanitarian way’ yesterday.
In reality, only the restrictions on of the type of communication with the family have been lifted, and the ban on telephone calls remains in full force.
Agree, not everyone would want their toddlers to go to jail to see them, but would prefer to occasionally communicate on the phone, promising, for example, to return with good gifts as soon as possible from the a business trip,” he noted.
Notably on 26 October, the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia issued a statement that based on the decision of the body conducting the criminal proceedings; meetings with detainee Arsen Babayan were prohibited in the interests of the investigation.
