Maxim Borodin, a 33-year-old Russian investigative journalist, who was from Yekaterinburg, died on April 15. The reason was the bodily injuries caused to him on April 12, when he fell down from the 5th floor and was taken to hospital unconsciously. This is reported by RFE/RL .
Officially, the cause of his death is a suicide. Sverdlovsk district police spokesman said that the case was not like a murder. Borodin’s door was closed from inside and there were no signs of violent intrusion. The keys of the house were found inside the house and no records of suicide were found.
Borodin was working for the “Noviy Den” (New Day) periodical. The editor-in-chief, Polina Rumyantsevan said she did not believe in suicide. One of Borodin’s friends, Vyacheslav Bashkov, wrote on his Facebook page that Borodin’s house was blocked on April 11 with masked security forces.
According to him, Borodin was anxious, but not in panic or under the influence of alcohol. Borodin said his apartment might be searched and security officers were waiting for the court’s decision. He asked his friend to find a lawyer for him.
However, an hour later he contacted with the friend to say that he was mistaken, the security guards were looking for something else. And then he learned about Maxim’s death from the press.
Maxim Borodin regularly wrote about crimes and corruption. Over the past few weeks, he has been writing more about Russian rebels fighting in Syria.
