The Human Rights Defender Office published summary data on the complaints recorded by the Human Rights Defender’s staff from July 17 to July 22.
The Human Rights Defender’s staff received a total of 114 oral and written reports from the period between July 17 and July 22, 2016.
The submitted complaints mainly referred to the apprehension of citizens by Police officers, using violence against them, seizing and failing to return citizens’ personal items by violating the established order, denying citizens’ entrance to police stations and the detained citizens’ right to call.
Based on the complaints and the data published in mass media, the process of investigating the complaints has begun in the order prescribed by the Ombudsman.
Demands for getting both oral and written clarification requests were submitted to the corresponding relevant state authorities.
With the purpose of getting familiar with the situation, the legal grounds for apprehending the citizens and the situation of ensuring the protection of their rights on site, the Human Rights Defender himself, as well as the representatives of the staff made more than 40 visits to different police units, medical facilities, etc.
Proposals for performing relevant actions as regards the cases recorded and the measures undertaken will be presented later.
