On 26 January, 2016 Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) the voting of the controversial resolutions was held.
Regarding the issue the Armenian side had carried out appropriate work beforehand, including meetings with PACE delegates, and presented its positions and concerns in terms of the wordings in the resolutions, which were not consistent with international community and, first of all, the positions and statements expressed by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs France, the RF and the USA.
The resolutions greatly distorted the history and essence of the Nagorno Karabakh problem and inadmissibly interfered with the peaceful settlement process, which witnessed the other statements made by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs on 22 January, 2016 and earlier, as well as numerous delegates’ speeches at the Plenary Session.
The members of the Parliamentary Assembly, comprehending the responsible moment, as a result of voting rejected Robert Walter’s ill-famed report.
As for the resolution on Sarsang, a number of PACE MPs, ignoring the opinion of the international community, displaying unilateral approach, voted for its adoption, thus, giving a political content to the report of humanitarian-technical character.
We express our gratitude to those PACE delegates, who showed principled stand and the full understanding of the political settlement process of the NK problem during the voting of the two resolutions and with their resolute position rejected Robert Walter’s report dangerous for the NK settlement.
