If we see that there is no Movement we shall not accept the Invitations as well: Varuzhan Hoktanyan

Varuzhan Hoktanyan, Executive Director of Transparency International Anti-Corruption Center received the invitation for participation in the session of the Anti-Corruption Council the day before the session. “The principle and stance of our organization was that without joining the Council as a member to go and participate as an observer in case of invitation. I received the invitation on Monday in the afternoon, though they had told me that I should receive it a week before. When I received the invitation I had to change my schedule, as I had a scheduled meeting in Armavir marz. But I thought it would not be correct to refuse the invitation,” said Mr. Hoktanyan in the interview with Iravaban.net.

Prior to this he had informed us that he would not be able to participate in the session due to his workload. During the interview Mr. Hoktanyan told that he had not seen the invitation and that was the reason that on 25 July he told us he would not participate in the session.

However at the session the Executive Director of Transparency International Anti-Corruption Center asked several questions to the members. Mr. Hoktanyan recommended not making any conclusions about the outcomes of the session yet. “Taking a decision is one thing. Its implementation is another. We need some months to understand what results will be achieved and what will be realized. This is the problem.”

To our question on his vision of further possible cooperation with the Council, the Executive Director of Transparency International Anti-Corruption Center replied, “Once we were member of the monitoring group of the former strategy. It was created in 2004. However, in 2007 we came out of it as we so that nothing serious is being done. Currently we are not a member. If we see that there is no Movement we shall not accept the Invitations as well. But I want to repeat if we see.”
