The Best Example of Fight against Corruption is the Own Example: A Memorandum of Understanding signed

Today, on 19 May, the OSCE Office in Yerevan, the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Development, and the Union of Government Employees NGO signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

“We shall try to improve the legislation, Rules of Ethics and Code of Conduct, train local government, and community service members who have daily contact with citizens, and form the attitude towards the country, the state just at this level, in a system, which has a great number of meetings and contacts with the RA population,” David Lokyan, Armenia’s Minister of Territorial Administration and Development said.

Fight against corruption and strengthening public confidence is a very serious political task. The Head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan Ambassador Argo Avakov said before aligning the Memorandum. “Our office for a number of years has supported the government in development and adoption of the law on the civil service. And we continue to promote public sector reforms. But fighting corruption is not only a policy matter, it is also about how we as persons entrust with responsibility conduct ourselves at work. That is why our collective work is especially important,” said the Ambassador.

Vache Kalashyan, Chairperson of the Union of Government Employees, expressed his gratitude to the parties, emphasizing that such format of civil society, government and international organizations cooperation can have an effective impact on increasing the level of fighting corruption and building integrity. “Today, there are a lot of talks about fighting corruption. In the scope of our lectures the community servants stressed that the best example of fight against corruption is the own example,” the NGO leader said.

Then the Parties signed the Memorandum of Understanding.

Note that initiatives shall include regular vocational trainings on the principles of integrity and international standards in the civil service, detection and prevention of corruption risks and corruption, reforms in the training for the community servants in the regions and reforms in the competitive recruitment processes, identification of the laws including corruption risks and proposals on structural reforms.
