Government’s fight against corruption is like a search of a black cat in a dark room – Hasmik Mkhitaryan, the President of “Gyumri Progress” Civil Society Development Center NGO said.
She said the Anti-Corruption Council created by the government’s decision may not act effective because it is led by the prime minister and members are prominent representatives of the Government. Involvement of representatives from only two NGOs will not ensure balance of votes.
When asked whether their organization will participate in the announced competition H.Mkhitaryan answered: “Of course I would not like, it is not credible. Joining NGO will become an institution varnishing the corruption risks by the authorities.
Notably, the anti-corruption coalition uniting more than 70 NGOs has refused to participate in a competition for participation in this council, as well as the Public Network for cooperation with State Authorities consisting of 150 NGOs, The Coalition of Armenian NGOs with Special Consultative Status in the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the anti-corruption NGO “Transparency International” “(TI), which has participated in the elaboration of the anti-corruption strategy concept prefers to stay in the status of an observer.
