Any citizen of the Republic of Armenia may join alternative service, where undergoing military service in military subdivision, as well as carrying, keeping, maintaining and using weapons are contrary to his religious beliefs and convictions.

Pursuant to Article 9 of the European Convention for the protection of Human Rights and Fundamental freedoms: “Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief, in worship, teaching, practice and observance.”
