The RA Investigative Committee informs,

On 29 July, 2021, between 03:30 and 03:45 a.m., a group of servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan, in order to intentionally violate the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia, to separate and occupy part of the territory of the Republic of Armenia, in the administrative territory of Vardenis community in the border area of Verin Shorzha settlement, used violence against the RA Armed Forces servicemen carrying out security duty, during which with intention to kill two or more people, motivated by national, racial or religious hatred or religious fanaticism, fired artillery and firearms at the servicemen of the RA Armed Forces, as a result of which, Senior Lieutenant H.S. of the N military unit of the RA Ministry of Defense, received a gunshot wound.

The Sevan Garrison Military Prosecutor’s Office initiated a criminal case under Article 300.2 and Article 104, Part 2, Clauses 1, 7 and 13 was accepted for proceedings by the Fifth Garrison Investigation Division of the Military Investigation Department of the RA Investigative Committee and a preliminary investigation is underway.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense reported that on 28 July, at around 3:40 am, units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces attacked the Armenian positions located in the north-eastern direction of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.

At 08:20, the Ministry of Defense announced that military operations had been launched in the area from Sotk to Verin Shorzha, and an intensive shootout was underway.

As of 07:30, we have two wounded; the information about five servicemen is being clarified.

As of 08:30, the Armenian side has three victims, two servicemen are wounded.

As of 09:20, giving losses, they were thrown back to their original positions. The shootout continues.

As of 11:40 a.m., the Ministry of Defense informed that an agreement had been reached through the mediation of the Russian Peacekeeping Forces Command on the restoration of the ceasefire regime on the Armenian-Azerbaijani line of contact in the north-eastern direction.

On 29 July, at around 3:00 am, in the Gegharkunik section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, in the direction of Karvachar, the units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, violating the ceasefire agreement reached the day before, again applied provocation by firing on Armenian positions.

As of 07:00, the situation is calm, there are no shootings.

At around 08:40, the units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces again opened fire on the Armenian positions located in the Gegharkunik section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.

A short shootout took place, after the actions of the Armenian side the enemy fire has been silenced.

One serviceman of the RA Armed Forces received a gunshot wound as a result of the 29 July provocations.

As of 09:30, the situation is calm.

The RA Ministry of Defense stated that the entire responsibility for the aggravation of the situation falls on the military-political leadership of Azerbaijan.
