On 28 July, 2021, between 03:30 and 03:50 a.m., a group of servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan, in order to intentionally violate the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia, to separate and occupy part of the territory of the Republic of Armenia, in the administrative territories of Vardenis and Geghamasar communities in the border area of Verin Shorzha and Sotk settlements, used violence against the RA Armed Forces servicemen carrying out security duty, during which with intention to kill two or more people, motivated by national, racial or religious hatred or religious fanaticism, fired artillery and firearms at the servicemen of the RA Armed Forces, captured one of the protected bases, as a result of which, Hayk Hovhannes Gevorgyan, a serviceman of the N military unit of the RA Ministry of Defense, Davit Garnik Kocharyan and Koryun Arayik Harutyunyan, conscripts, died from gunshot and shrapnel wounds. At the same time and five conscript privates received various degrees of gunshot and shrapnel wounds.

The Sevan Garrison Military Prosecutor’s Office initiated a criminal case under Article 300.2 and Article 104, Part 2, Clauses 1, 7 and 13 was accepted for proceedings by the Fifth Garrison Investigation Division of the Military Investigation Department of the RA Investigative Committee and a preliminary investigation is underway.
