The issue of electing judges has been removed from the agenda of the NA sitting; Do judges refuse to be elected by this parliament? Edmon Marukyan to Ararat Mirzoyan

The issue of electing the President of the Court of Cassation and a judge was removed from the agenda of the sitting of the National Assembly. The head of the NA “Bright Armenia” faction Edmon Marukyan inquired from the NA Speaker Ararat Mirzoyan what the reason was.

“There is information in the press that the judges refuse to participate in the election by this parliament. I would like to clarify whether to demand an explanation from the SJC or not,” Marukyan said.

Ararat Mirzoyan mentioned that the chairman of the SJC had written him a letter, in which, in particular, it was said that the candidates had been informed by phone for the sitting, which they did not consider appropriate, and in addition they did not have time to prepare.

“Besides, judges had to talk about the problems of the judiciary, address the logistical issues of judges, the workload of the courts, etc., but given the post-war situation, the range of issues that need more urgent solutions is unrealistic. Therefore, the chairman of the SJC is asking to postpone the issue on behalf of their candidates,” Mirzoyan said, adding that they had accepted that request and postponed the discussion of the issue.
