Do not burn your homes or property in order to start legally justified and sound legal proceedings in the future

The Armenian Lawyers’ Association has issued a statement on the destruction of property in Artsakh.

Dear citizens coming from Artsakh,

We learn from various press publications that you are destroying the property you own in Artsakh.

Sharing your pain and anger in full, we ask and urge you to refrain from such actions in order to start legally justified and well-founded processes in the future. In order to further effectively protect your property rights and the protection of historical and cultural values, it is necessary to:

  • keep your passport, birth, marriage certificate or any other legal document that identifies you and your kinship ․
  • Maintain ownership certificates for real estate (house, apartment, land, garage, etc.) and movable property (cars, trucks, other household appliances, etc.), or other documents that will confirm your acquisition of the said property.
  • save any document, old and expired passports that certify your registration at a specific address․
  • keep property tax receipts or any other document proving that you own the real estate, that it is under your use․
  • photograph, videotape real estate and movable property, which proves that you own it and use it ․
  • document, photograph historical and cultural values, which confirms that they are under your and Artsakh’s possession.

Due to all this, the Armenian Lawyers’ Association provides free legal advice to our compatriots who immigrated to Armenia from Artsakh, persons leaving voluntarily or through mobilization for the defense of the homeland, their family members, citizens who have suffered and are suffering material losses due to the war.
