Today, on 19 August, the third President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan is giving a press conference for the first time since his resignation.
Speaking on the topic of the Four-Day April War, he presented his introductory speech, which he read at the sitting of the Investigative Committee of the National Assembly investigating the circumstances of the April War.
“When a thesis is put forward: whether it was a victory or defeat the resistance to the April aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan, those who ask such questions must first have a clear idea of what victory, and what defeat in a war is.
It is obvious that wars are not an end in themselves, they always pursue political goals. War is a continuation of politics by other methods. It is a victory for the defending side, when it manages to abort the opponent’s ideas with minimal losses. The end result of the war cannot be satisfactory for the attacking party if it does not achieve its political goals, at least in part,” the resigned president said.
He mentioned that it is painful to see how various false information has been circulating inside the country in recent years.
“Myths have been created for 4 years already, myths are being spread, absolute lies about soldiers fighting with shovels, hungry soldiers without bullets, armored vehicles filled with water instead of diesel fuel. This is just a shame, even from the point of view of achieving political goals,” Serzh Sargsyan said.
