Biography of the Chairman of Urban Development Committee Vahagn Vermishyan,

On 5, February the head of the RA Urban Development Committee Vahagn Vermishyan was arrested by the National Security Service.

The NSS statement says that during a meeting on October 23, 2019, the head of the Urban Development Committee agreed to nominate an owner of several construction companies to the title of “Honored Builder of Armenia”, receiving a bribe of 5,000 US $ drams bribe equivalent to about 2,379,950 AMD  and construction materials worth to about $ 2,300,000 AMD.

Within the framework of the criminal case initiated at the RA NSS Investigation Department according to the relevant articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia, the persons allegedly committed the crime were arrested, three of them, including the Chairman of the aforementioned Committee, were detained and charged. At the same time, a bribe-taking official confessed to committing the crime while being questioned as a suspect. The preliminary investigation is ongoing.

Other Information

In 1983-1985, he served in the USSR Armed Forces.

For over 25 years, the group of companies led by him carried out more than 250 architectural projects in Armenia, the CIS and the Gulf countries, Africa, and has served in different times in Yerevan, Dubai, Shanghai, Khartoum and Ljubljana.

Vermishian’s projects include the first and second terminals of Domodedovo international airport in Moscow, the Sochi seaport with its infrastructure, a multifunctional sports complex in Astrakhan, the Yerevan Circus and many shopping centers. He has participated in the development of urban projects in the UAE and Sudan.
