RPA Executive Body on Charges brought against Serzh Sargsyan

Statement by the Executive Body of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) on the Accusation of RPA Chairman, the Third President of the RA Serzh Sargsyan:

We have always voiced our concerns about the processes taking place in Armenia after the occupation of the power in Armenia, the situation in the country, the injustices, political persecutions, the violation of fundamental freedoms, the inadmissibility of the atmosphere of hatred and intolerance, as well as the security challenges of Armenia and Artsakh, the negotiation process, and about threats to the two Armenian states under global geopolitical developments.

The activities of the RPA are solely aimed at the protection of national and state interests, the strengthening of democratic values in the country and the preservation of constitutionality.

The current administration is shocking the Republican domestic and foreign policy activity, which became especially apparent after the Republican Party’s well-known Zagreb speech, which addressed issues of vital interest of the Armenian people and provided clear, including external, political assessments.

Today it became known that the Special Investigation Service of the Republic of Armenia has accused RPA Chairman, the Third President of the RA Serzh Sargsyan.

Taking into account the fact that the accusation is false and absurd, we declare:

  1. We consider the accusation against Serzh Sargsyan to be an outrageous manifestation of political persecution.
  2. The purpose of this process is to silence political opponents against the backdrop of threats to Armenia and Artsakh, including in the context of recent developments in the negotiation process.
  3. With such ruthless steps, the authorities also aim to divert the attention of the Armenian people from the many other issues that are aggravating in the country daily.
  4. These primitive tricks on national issues under the declared “anti-corruption fight” are doomed to face the unyielding resistance of both the Republican, other political forces, and the public.
  5. The whole responsibility for this process lies with the populist and authoritarian regime that has seized power in Armenia.
  6. The Republican Party will also raise this issue and related developments in relevant international platforms and formats.
