Artsrun Hovhannisyan on “Participation in Voting in the Row”

By 17:00 on 9 December, 2009, a total of 39 calls related to the RA National Assembly elections, were received by the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia. In major part they were related to the organization of elections, the transfer of military servicemen from the military units, and the voting of the soldiers. Press Secretary of the RA Ministry of Defense Artsrun Hovhannisyan informed about this.

“In some cases, related to issues that were out of the Defense Ministries jurisdiction, citizens were directed to other competent. Citizens were provided with appropriate clarifications.

There have also been reports that soldiers are entering the polling station in a row, but on-site studies have revealed that such an idea has been misinterpreted and the matter concerns the organization of the process of entering the electoral precinct in turns and groups. Standing in the queue does not have an alternative.

In the polling stations at the military units there are a considerable number of soldiers among the voters near the polling stations and wearing a uniform and often it seems that they are moving in a row. At the same time, the notion of “row rank” is not defined by the RA Armed Forces, which is misinterpreted as being in the row.

The RA Electoral Code prohibits the entry into the precinct center, which is clearly instructed and kept by servicemen.

The hotline will continue to work until the voting ends,” he said.
