“Mayis was more encouraged by the defeats that the next one should be better for him. Even at the smartest time, when he did not reach the final, he still did not break, he wanted to participate again,” Lida Hovsepyan, the sister of Mayis Hovsepyan, who died in the Artsakh war says.

She says that her brother was very good at everything, including chess, maps and school knowledge. He combined sports, lessons and worked.

Mayis was drafted into the army in 2019, he served in Jrakan. He was a grenade launcher. They served together with three friends.

“They were very satisfied with the service, three friends went to Jrakan from here together, Mayis said, ‘No one here can tell us anything,'” the sister says.

She says that her brother’s friends called him a “movie boy” because of his nice appearance. The comrades-in-arms said that they had advanced under the command of Mayis, had kept their entrusted position invincible for days.

His mother, Lusine Hovsepyan, says that Mayis was sure that they would win and nothing would happen to them.

“He knew his weapon very well. They destroyed subversive groups. He led his friends so that they would not retreat, to be united. They destroyed a large number of enemies,” the mother says.
