I applied to Ruben Vardazaryan to publish the list of “such” judges or to deny: Arman Kurekhyan
According to Arman Kurekhyan, Chairman of the Court of General Jurisdiction of Tavush Region, on 3 March, when presenting the candidates for the judge of Court Cassation in the National Assembly, and while answering the questions of the deputies, the Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council Ruben Vardazaryan made expressions that discredited the judiciary.
Arman Kurekhyan said this in an interview with Iravaban.net for the “Judges of Armenia” series.
“I have never reserved the right to evaluate the statements of politicians, political statements, but I think that it is inadmissible for a person representing the judiciary to make such a statement in public. Moreover, I must mention that it was much more unacceptable and insulting for me, as a judge, the fact that Mr. Vardazaryan, being our partner, a judge, tried to distance himself from the other judges, declaring himself devoted to the homeland, honest, professional and in essence overshadowing the rest of the judicial system,” the judge said.
He mentioned that he had applied to the chairman of the SJC Ruben Vardazaryan to publish the list of “such” judges or to deny it. “Mr. Vardazaryan did neither one nor the other and I had to apply to the Supreme Judicial Council. But let me say that my goal is not at all for Mr. Vardazaryan to be held accountable. To be honest, I do not expect or believe that he will be held disciplinary accountability, because I am convinced that there are judges who were and continue to be inviolable, and judges who can be held accountable․ That separation still exists. My goal was just for the SJC to at least discuss within itself, to give a moral assessment to the statements of its member and president,” Arman Kurekhyan said.
In addition, Arman Kurekhyan also filed a lawsuit in the Administrative Court with a demand to invalidate the decision of the Supreme Judicial Council of 24 December, 2020.
