Sexual violence is a type of domestic violence under Armenian law. Lawyer Nvard Piliposyan said this during a roundtable discussion on the “Prospects of Strengthening the Mechanisms for the Protection of Women’s Rights in Armenia” which took place on 12July.

According to her, according to the statistics of the last year, when domestic violence victims applied to various institutions and mentioned that they were subjected to sexual violence, no criminal-legal assessment was carried out, and no the case had been initiated. “Marital rape for people is something Unimaginable,” the lawyer said.
