European Public Law Organization opens Office in Yerevan

On 17 December, Hovhannes Manukyan, the RA Minister of Justice met with Spyridon Flogaitis, President of European Public Law Organization (EPLO) Board of Directors, the Information and Public Relations Department of the RA Ministry of Justice informs. The Minister greeted the guest on the occasion of founding the Yerevan Office of European Public Law Organization. He mentioned that the reforms in the sphere of public law are one of the most dynamically developing directions in Armenia. On the request of the guest the Minister referred to the process of constitutional changes in Armenia as well. Mr Manukyan said that the process of constitutional changes was initiated by the RA President based on the need of realization of the principle of the rule of law, improvement of the constitutional provisions of guaranteeing human rights and freedoms, to ensure the appropriate balance of the authorities and to raise the efficiency of good governance. Further, the minister referred to the judicial reform, noting that the main objective of the Strategic Plan on Legal and Judicial Reform in 2012-2016 was insuring the provisions of standard for legal and judicial system that correspond to the modern legal state.

The professor told that the the objectives of their organization include legal education, conducting research, training and development of the educational institutions. He expressed willingness to develop all that directions through the Armenian branch of their organization and also emphasized that they can participate in all activities initiated by the Ministry of Justice upon the agreement of the Ministry. The parties also referred to a number of issues of mutual interest.
EPLO was founded in 2007 in Greece. Currently 14 countries, six international organizations and Public Agencies, as well as 64 universities and institutes are EPLO members. Its HQ is in Athens and it has 14 offices over the world. The organization haz developed, organized and supported over 200 educational, research, and training institutes and other projects in more than 70 countries.
