Today, Mnatsakan Martirosyan, Judge of the Court of General Jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork Marash Administrative Districts of Yerevan returned from the deliberation room and published the verdict on the case of bribery in University.
Levon Kizokyan and Lavrent Qosyan, two defendants in the case were charged for embezzlement of especially large sum of money by fraud. The third defendant in the case Lilia Martirosyan was charged for giving bribe.
The court decided to sentence Lavrent Qosyan to 5 years imprisonment with confiscation of half of property but no more than equivalent to 5 million AMD. Levon Kizokyan was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment with confiscation of half of property as well. Lilia Martirosyan was sentenced to 3 years imprisonment, but punishment shall not be applied to the defendant, the court sets a probation period of 3 years.
It is due to notice that at the beginning of the court session, Lilia Martirosyan was crying and complaining that she had given a 15500 USD bribe for her son’s admission to faculty of law of the university, but she was cheated and they did not return her money.
“My son passed the exams and entered the faculty of law, but to correspondence tuition, without anyone’s support. Now is in the army. I shall have to sell my house to return the debts. My son will return from the military service and stay with no home,” she said turning to the other two defendants choking back her tears.
