Anticipated Return of Armenian Prisoners Ahead of COP29: Experts Expect Positive Developments
While the issue of Armenian political prisoners and prisoners illegally held in Baku remains consistently in the spotlight at various levels, Azerbaijan continues to prolong the process, violating international human rights norms.
Human rights defender Siranush Sahakyan, who represents Armenian prisoners’ rights at the European Court of Human Rights, notes that while approximately 210 individuals have been repatriated at this stage, 23 people remain in captivity. It’s important to emphasize that five of them have been held prisoner since 2020.
