I was screaming that my Child would come back, but I knew he wouldn’t: Artyom Kolanjyan’s Mother told how her Son volunteered to the Frontline
48-year-old Arpine Shahbazyan lost her eldest son, Artyom Kolanjyan, during the 2nd Artsakh war.
She told in the framework of “Immortal Victims of the Artsakh War ” series of Iravaban.net, “My son was a DJ, nicknamed SCIONIS, which means new beginning, rebirth. Whenever he writes something new, he called everyone one and wanted to understand who heard what.”
Upon hearing the news of the war, Artyom immediately took off his military uniform and shoes left over from the Four-Day April War, washed and ironed them, so that he could wear them and go to the border as a volunteer. The military commissariat called him to appear at 14:00. The mother remembers that they were there at 13:00 on that day, they waited until 20:00, but Artyom’s name was not read. He he got into the bus with every departing group, was dropped off several times, then forced them to add his name with a pen, read it and left.
At first, he was taken to Lusakert for training, and a few days later, on 15 October, he was transferred to Hadrut. However the family members learned about only after Artyom’s death. He hid his whereabouts so that his mother and brother would not worry.
He made friends in Lusakert, there were 6 of them, and they decided to go together. During the transfer to Hadrut, the name of the other 5 was on the list, but Artyomin was not. He forced to add his name with a pen again so that he could be next to his friends.
Arpine Shahbazyan received the last call from her son on 18 October.
Earlier, the family chose an area in Yerevan so that they could build a house, but the works were constantly delayed. On the day of his sacrifice, Artyom did not call the family members, he called the builder of the house and said:” Gevorg, I won’t come back, do not leave my mother and brother homeless.”
The house is already built, the room is set aside for Artyom, but he is not there.
