The main topic of the political crisis, which has entered a new phase in Romania, is the dismissal of the Chief Prosecutor of Romania’s National Anticorruption Directorate. The Justice Minister had presented the demand on the issue to the Present in February, but the President rejected it. Further, after Superior Council of Magistracy decided to reject the request of the minister of justice, the latter submitted this issue to the Constitutional Court.
With six votes ‘for’ and three votes ‘against’, the Constitutional Court stated that pursuant to the Constitution, the President is bound to accept the claim of Justice Minister Tudorel Toader to the President of Romania on dismissal of the head of the Anti-Corruption Directorate (DNA), Laura Kövesi.
