Government approved “Recognition of Artsakh Republic” Draft

Today, the government session deliberated on the matter of the RA Law on “Recognizing the Republic of Artsakh” and reviewed the opinion of the Government on the draft.

The draft was presented by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shavarsh Kocharyan. The outline was developed by MPs Zaruhi Postanjyan and Hrant Bagratyan.

The conclusion reads: “The Government of the Republic of Armenia has adopted this draft in light of the results of the discussions between Armenia and Artsakh, taking into consideration the upcoming developments, inclusive of external factors.

At the same time we note that at the time this draft is presented to the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shavarsh Kocharyan, will provide a supplemental report.”

The reasons behind the adoption of the draft law by the Republic of Armenia mean that the RA would officially recognize the actual status of Arstakh conditional upon the state meeting standers of international law for a sovereign state. The draft will be the basis of regulating relations between the Republics of Armenia and Artsakh, the safety of the Republic of Artsakh, and strengthening the rights and obligations of Armenia’s national interest and public policy for their participation in post-conflict reconstruction.

The draft was approved and sent to the National Assembly will vote either to recognize the Republic of Artsakh or not.

The draft in Armenian language is available here.
