The sniper shot my son in the knee and in the heart ․․․ He was under siege in Shushi: Erik Hovhannisyan fought for 42 days

“Before he was being drafted, I said, ‘Dear Eric, get accepted somewhere and then go.’ He used to say, “Dear mother, don’t be angry, I will be drafted, then I will be accepted,” Hasmik Bakhshyan, the mother of Erik Hovhannisyan, who died in the Second Artsakh War says.

According to the mother, the boy never complained about the service, he always said that he has everything, he does not need anything.

“Before the war, I talked to him every day, there was a special hour. When the war began, he did not say that he was in the positions, he said, “Mom, we are recruits, we are in bunkers, and we are in a safe place.’ Then I learned that they he was taken to Martuni, after the hard battles in Hadrut, they had to rest in a school building, but the boys had many losts, a volunteer told about it. He said, ‘When Eric came in, he looked so tired, I could not control myself, and cried, he said, ‘Do not cry uncle, he hugged me, he said everything will be fine,'” Eric’s mother says.

Hasmik Bakhshyan says that the boy was later transferred to Shushi. Their longest conversation was on 6 November, the next day the boy said he would not call again, he asked his mother not to cry, not to be sad, and that he was fine.

“I heard a conversation, the boys were saying, ‘Look, look how they are approaching.’ “Then I found out that they were under siege, one of his wounded friends told,” Hasmik said.

Erik Hovhannisyan was born on 7 May, 2002. He died in the battles for the defense of the homeland on 7 November, 2020.
